A two days meeting dedicated to discuss the present status and future development of the Whisky code will be held at the Centro S. Elisabetta of the University of Parma and organized by the local numerical relativity group in collaboration with the AEI, the University of Parma and the "gruppo collegato di Parma" of the INFN.Whisky Retreat 2008
The meeting will be the forth meeting of this kind and will reproduce the format of the previous one held in SISSA (Retreat III) and its aim is to obtain an overview of the current works and to discuss about the future of its development
The local organizing committee is composed by Roberto De Pietri (roberto.depietri_at_unipr.it) and Bruno Giacomazzo (bgiacoma_at_aei.mpg.de). If you are interested in participating please write an email to B. Giacomazzo or R. De Pietri.
The Whisky Retreat this year will be mainly divided in two sessions: one on Monday more focused on technical aspects of the Whisky code and one on Tuesday more dedicated to physical results obtained with the use of it. The session on Tuesday will also include contributions from developers and users of other relativistic codes in order to increase more the interaction between the "Whisky community" and other relativistic astrophysicist.
On the Monday session we allocate 45 minutes for each speaker with a format of 25 minutes presentation followed by 20 minutes dedicated to follow up discussions. For the Tuesday session we allocated 50 minutes for each speaker with a format of a 30 minutes presentation plus 20 minutes discussion.
Parma is centrally located in the north of Italy half way between Milano (Milan) and Bologna. The best way to reach Parma is arriving by plane in one of the Milano area airports (Malpensa (MXP), Linate (LIN) or Bergamo Orio al Serio) or Bologna airport (BLQ). Transfer time between Malpensa and Bergamo airport to Parma is around three hours and from Bologna and Linate two hours. One has to take a BUS to the closed Railway station and then a train to Parma.
Basically there are two possibility: the University guest house or a Hotel downtown. Roberto De Pietri will do his best to help you. The best solution is the externally run University Guest House "Residenza S. Ilario". To reserve a room at the "Residenza" please mail directly to them [s.ilario(_at_)ceur.it] making reference to Whisky Retreat 2008 (They will ask a credit card guarantee to confirm your reservation).
